Galactic Empire

The Galactic Empire, also known as the New Order or simply the Empire, is the galactic government established by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to replace the Galactic Republic in 1 IR.

The Republic, which had lasted for over 25,000 years, ended following a period of intense political turmoil and the subsequent devastation of the Clone Wars. After the death of Count Dooku above Coruscant, the death of General Grievous on Utapau and finally the massacre of the leaders of the Confederacy of Independent Systems on Mustafar, Chancellor Palpatine—by then ruling with near-absolute power)—began a purge of the Jedi Order, proclaimed himself Emperor of the galaxy, and reorganized the Galactic Republic into “the first Galactic Empire.”

With the rise of the Empire, all the institutions of the old Republic found themselves either dismantled or modified beyond recognition. There was a riot of renaming all things “Imperial” to glorify the new Emperor: overnight, the Coruscant sector was renamed the Imperial Sector, Coruscant itself was renamed Imperial Center, and Galactic City was renamed Imperial City. The Galactic Senate became the Imperial Senate. The Grand Army of the Republic became the Imperial Army and the Republic Navy became the Imperial Navy. The four decrepit intelligence agencies of the Republic were merged into Imperial Intelligence. The Palace of the Republic was rebuilt and expanded, becoming the Imperial Palace, eclipsing all other buildings on Imperial Center. The former Commission for the Protection of the Republic (COMPOR) was renamed the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order (COMPNOR). Within days, there were few names left to remind the people that there had ever been a Galactic Republic.

During the first few years of the Empire, the galaxy saw the single largest military buildup in history. A permanent class of Moffs and regional governors was established to more efficiently govern individual sectors and regions of the Empire. Popular support for the policies of Palpatine’s administration was high. In addition, the Empire also pursued a reconquest of the Middle and Outer Rims of the Galaxy, which included getting rid of any and all remaining Separatist influence. By 3 IR, the Empire restored order and rule of law in eight sectors, and liberated 95 worlds.

Imperial Navy
The Imperial Navy was formed from the Republic Navy of the Galactic Republic in 1 IR, as part of Palpatine’s Imperialization campaign during the rise of the Empire. A reorganized command structure, eventually consisting of twelve Grand Admirals, oversaw the rapid expansion of the fleet that had begun during the Clone Wars.

The Imperial Navy is one of the most formidable militaries ever assembled, consisting of millions of warships, fighters and transports, manned by trillions of fleet crew. The mainstays of its fleets – the Star Destroyer capital ship and the TIE fighter series of starfighters – are some of the most visible symbols of Imperial rule to the galaxy’s civilian populace.

Imperial Army
The Imperial Army is a branch of the Imperial Military that has the primary responsibility of prosecution of ground-side military operations, under the oversight of Army Command. Numbering in the tens of trillions, the Army utilizes a wide range of equipment and vehicles in support of its infantry. Army units were often reinforced by stormtroopers, although the command structure for the two organizations remained separate. On garrisoned worlds, the Army operated in conjunction with the Imperial Navy, stormtroopers, and the local constabulary to maintain order and security.

Stormtrooper Corps
The Imperial stormtroopers are the evolution of the clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic. By the end of the Clone Wars in 1 IR, the Galactic Republic was reorganized into the first Galactic Empire. As a result, the Grand Army was reformed into the Stormtrooper Corps and the clones were renamed “stormtroopers.” Under the Empire, stormtroopers operate alongside Imperial Armyand Navy units, and some are stationed on Naval ships where they served as marines.

Of all the new Imperial organizations, none is more accessible to the average galactic citizen than the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order. It might seem ironic that COMPNOR is the successor to the Commission for the Preservation of the Republic (COMPOR), a volunteer corps committed to supporting the Chancellor and the war. However, COMPOR was more dedicated to Palpatine than to the Republic. Using this natural base of supporters, COMPNOR was poised to provide a growing number of loyal Imperial supporters and activists.

Anyone can join COMPNOR, though the overwhelmmg majonty of members are Human. At the most basic level, COMPNOR works as a grass roots effort on Imperial-friendly worlds, where any citizen can actively promote and participate in the Empire’s greater goals. However, COMPNOR is more than just a political action body or a social club. It actively promotes the ethics and ideals of the New Order to all, starting with the youngest. It is an integral part of Imperial society.

CompForce: CompForce is the military arm of COMPNOR. It is filled with New Order loyalists selected from other divisions. CompForce’s near-fanatical dedication to the ideals of the New Order often brings it into conflict with the regular Imperial military. As a fighting group, CompForce members are loyal and fearsome. Their rigorously lethal training means that the best, or more often the luckiest, become active soldiers. As such, most CompForce units are dangerous combatants, and a few of the best are becoming elite units.

Imperial Security Bureau: The Emperor’s advisors created the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) as a direct competitor to Imperial Intelligence. The ISB is staffed with New Order loyalists, a situation that results in less objective, though dedicated and enthusiastic, information gathering. The ISB is the secret police of the the Empire with its agents perceived to be everywhere. The ISB operates from an enormous central office on Imperial Center, has offices and officers scattered throughout the galaxy, and can be found on every major world.

Imperial Intelligence
Imperial Intelligence is the Empire’s military intelligence arm. While the ISB is tasked with no citizen goes against the New Order, Imperial Intelligence is tasked with providing the Imperial Army and Navy for intelligence. They also keep careful watch over the few areas of the galaxy outside the Emperor’s reach, such as Hutt Space, the Corporate Sector, and Hapes Consortium. The head of Imperial Intelligence is currently Armand lsard, a man whose reputation extends outside the intelligence community.
